Sweet Halloween

Buñuelos de viento

Currently we live in a society in which we love celebrating, any excuse is valid, a public holiday, a social event such as a birthday, wedding ... we are almost always ready to celebrate, and if there are sweets on the table, much better.

La Castañada, Todos Los Santos, Halloween, are popular festivals that are celebrated after the chestnut harvest, on October 31 and November 1 respectively.

Depending on each geographical area, it is celebrated in one way or another, for example, in Catalonia, the Balearic Islands and Aragon, traditional sweets such as panallets are made, based on marzipan, almonds and sugar, covered with pine nuts, almonds among other not so traditional ingredients, like chocolate, strawberry or coconut.

Another typical sweet for these dates are the buñuelos de viento -doughnuts-, very popular in the Communities of Madrid, Castilla y León, Asturias and Galicia, and cream filling doughnuts are very characteristic in the Community of Valencia. It is a dough made of flour, butter, and eggs, which is fried in olive oil at a very high temperature.

In Andalusia are typical the Huesos de santo, they are tubes-shaped marzipan dough, filled with sweet yolk cream and covered of sugar.
